How Much Will Insulating My Attic Cost

If you’re living anywhere within Toronto, you’ve likely realized how expensive it can be to keep your home warm during the winter. As utility prices steadily increase every year, so does the cost to keep your home and yourself warm throughout winter. Many options are available to a Toronto homeowner to improve their home’s energy efficiency, but most are expensive and tedious. However, one of the simplest ways to keep your home warm is by ensuring you have adequate attic insulation installed in your toronto home or provided by a reputable insulation company in Toronto.

Besides being one of the simplest and cost-effective ways to keep your home warm throughout the winter, attic insulation is also one of the most eco-friendly improvements you can make for your home. Insulation materials are often made up of recycled material, which is also naturally decomposable, ensuring your carbon footprint is minimal. Furthermore, depending on the R-value, attic insulation in Toronto can lead to substantial energy cost savings over time for your home. It can lead to reducing your energy bill from between 15 to 25 percent! The R-value of insulation means its effectiveness to retain and keep heat indoors and its overall ability to insulate your home.

Attic insulation costs vary depending on the type of insulation, square footage, and several other factors. Below, you can find an analysis of the different types of attic insulation you can install and the relative cost to install each factor.

Blow-In Cellulose Insulation

blown-in insulationOne of the simplest types of insulation to install in an attic or within the walls of your attic is blow-in insulation, as it can easily be installed into tight corners and small areas. This price can vary depending on your house’s attic’s complexity if air sealing is required and ventilation. Older homes tend to be a little on the pricier side of installation as their roofs tend to have more air leakage, and exposure to the elements reduces the R-value of the cladding and windows over a period of time. As for all types of insulation, the amount of square footage also dictates the cost of installing insulation, as higher square footage will lead to higher material and labour costs.

Blown-in cellulose insulation is a popular and effective type of insulation that is used to improve energy efficiency, reduce energy bills, and create a comfortable living space. However, like any home improvement project, the cost of installing blown-in cellulose insulation can vary depending on several factors. In this article, we will explore the various factors that affect blown-in cellulose insulation costs.

Factors that Affect Attic Insulation Costs

  • The Size of Your Attic: One of the most significant factors that affect the cost of blown-in cellulose insulation is the size of your attic. A larger attic will require more insulation, which will increase the overall cost of the project. Conversely, a smaller attic will require less insulation and, therefore, be less expensive to insulate.
  • The Type of Blown-In Cellulose Insulation: There are different types of blown-in cellulose insulation, and the type you choose can impact the overall cost of the project. Some types of cellulose insulation are made from recycled materials, while others are made from virgin materials. Recycled cellulose insulation is typically less expensive than virgin cellulose insulation, but it may not be as effective in reducing energy bills.
  • The Insulation R-Value: The R-value of insulation is a measure of its ability to resist heat flow. The higher the R-value, the more effective the insulation will be in reducing energy bills. However, insulation with a higher R-value will also be more expensive to install. Therefore, it is important to balance the desired R-value with your budget when choosing blown-in cellulose insulation.
  • The Accessibility of Your Attic: The accessibility of your attic can also impact the cost of installing blown-in cellulose insulation. If your attic is difficult to access, such as if it requires crawling through a small access hatch or climbing a ladder, it may take longer to install the insulation, which will increase the overall cost of the project.
  • The Condition of Your Attic: If your attic is in poor condition, it may require additional work to prepare it for insulation. For example, if there is water damage or mould present, it will need to be remediated before the insulation can be installed. This additional work will increase the overall cost of the project.
  • The Attic Insulation Contractor You Choose: The attic insulation companny you choose to install your blown-in cellulose insulation can also impact the overall cost of the project. Different contractors may have different pricing structures, so it is important to get quotes from multiple contractors to compare costs. Additionally, it is important to choose a contractor who is experienced with attic insulation in Toronto and reputable to ensure that the job is done correctly and efficiently.

In conclusion, blown-in cellulose insulation is an effective way to improve energy efficiency and reduce energy bills, but the cost of installation can vary depending on several factors. By understanding these factors and working with an experienced and reputable contractor, you can ensure that you get the best value for your investment in blown-in cellulose insulation.

I'm very pleased with EcoComfort. I called them for an attic insulation top up. After the first phone call, someone came to have a quick look at my attic. A few weeks later, two men and their truck came and increased my attic insulation from R21 to R60 with blown-in cellulose. I appreciate that they use Canadian materials (Climatizer Plus). The work only took a few hours and they left everything just as they found it, nice and clean. My house feels a little cozier now with the added insulation. Thanks a lot!

Very unusual these days to find a home contractor who in fact lives up to or exceeds their claims and online revues. Wojtek was prompt, courteous, extremely knowledgeable and very patient.........he answered all my questions. Patrick, his brother and his two colleagues arrived on time, were careful and tidy, did an excellent job and cleaned up beautifully. I was skeptical of the purported benefits of adding attic insulation but during this recent late summer heat wave I have not required air conditioning during the day and only a bit overnight. Aside from potential future energy savings, the benefits were immediately evident. I would highly recommend Ecocomfort to anyone considering anything they do.

For 800 sq ft attics - EcoComfort Insulation price was HALF what 2 other insulation contractors quoted me. Very professional starting from the quote (Wojtek) - who explained the process, to the guys who did installation, very efficient and professional, - vacuumed and cleaned afterwards - can't wait to see how it retains the heat on these colder evenings. Highly recommend them.

Tom and co. were amazing!! They just completed the job within 3hrs and I had zero insulation to begin with so it was a big job. They were truly professional, cleaned up after the job and walked me through the inspection. Ontop of that, they also helped fix a small leak in the roof which they noticed during the job!! That's service beyond and above and truly appreciated!! Looking forward now to having warmth in the bedrooms this coming winter and would definitely recommend EcoComfort to anyone! You guys are awesome...

We had a great experience with EcoComfort. Arnold attended our home to provide us with a quote, and he explained the whole process and answered any questions we had. The insulation itself went well- two workers came to do the job. They cleaned up afterwards. We already notice a difference with our second floor feeling less hot in the summer heat now that we have our attic insulation done!

I hired EcoComfort Insulation after researching the more labour-intensive option to replace the batting by hand. It was like a mountain range of pink batts in the attic which was honestly a bit terrifying. Patrick sent a crew with a truck which sucked the old, dusty, pink stuff out and blew in new R60+ cellulose. I am so happy I went with this installation method and it was well worth spending the extra money.

The guys did a spectacular job in removing the old insulation and replacing it with cellulose. They were friendly, efficient and professional. They also installed a bathroom roof vent for better air circulation AND installed weatherstripping for our attic hatch. After work was done, they cleaned up the minimal dust that occurred and left our place as if they were never there. This company provides awesome service. Hire them!
